Oily Skin: Easy Ways to Take Care of It daily
Being a natural skincare brand, one question we get asked often by customers and followers on social media is how to take care of oily skin. People want to know what causes oily skin and how they can manage it or at least keep it under control.
The truth is we need certain amount of oil to keep our skin moisturized. So, this means that everyone’s skin produces oil. The oil known as sebum is produced by a gland known as the Sebaceous glands.
Sebum is the waxy, oily substance that protects and hydrates the skin. It is the Sebum produced by the sebaceous glands that lubricates the skin and prevents it from drying out.
Oily skin is the result of sebum overproduction. A person with an overly active sebaceous gland might end up with acne, clogged pores and shiny skin or face.
In this article, we look at easy ways you can manage oily skin daily.
1. Wash regularly with the right facial soap or face wash
How often do you wash your face? What soap are you using on your face? Washing twice a day can help to reduce the amount of oil on the skin. But using the wrong products or harsh products could make your skin dry, which stimulates even more sebum production, that continues the vicious cycle of acne.
For oily skin, ensure you wash with a gentle soap and lukewarm water; avoid soaps with harsh chemicals. Look for face soaps with ingredients like goat milk, oats, honey, activated charcoal, tea tree oil and rose clay. These ingredients cleanse deeply without stripping the skin of its natural moisture, remove excess oils and toxins from the face. You will find these ingredients in our range of facial soaps here
2. Use effective toners
Certain toners that contain alcohol tend to dry out the skin, that’s why experts recommend using natural toners that have skin soothing properties and are safe for use.

3. Apply the right Face Cream Suitable for Oily Skin
For fear of having their skin look greasier, many people with oily skin tend to run away from moisturizers.
However, using the right moisturizer can be of great help. A facial moisturizer formulated with ingredients Niacinamide, such as our Nature’s Face Lift cream, could help keep the skin moist and protected with the added benefit of regulating sebum production on the face all day long.
Another thing we must point out is not to use body lotions or unrefined shea butter directly on your face. This tends to worsen the situation. General rule of thumb is that body products are not to be used on the face, but facial products can be used on the body.
The skin on the face is thinner and more delicate that the skin on the body so please be guided.
If done right, managing your oily skin is not much of a hassle. However, a lot of folks end up with the wrong products and or do not have a good skincare routine. This can aggravate the situation. Sticking to a proven routine and suitable products is the first step in successfully managing oily skin.
